This Workshop teaches the following skills:

  • Verbal Communication: Teaches the participant skills to effectively use verbal communication that employs readily understood spoken words, as well as ensuring that the enunciation, stress and tone of voice with which the words are expressed is appropriate.
  • Non-Verbal Communication: This session explores the basics of non-verbal communication including pitch, speed, tone and volume of voice, gestures and facial expressions, body posture, stance, and proximity to the listener, eye movements and contact, dress and appearance.
  • Listening Skills: This session assists the participant in developing skills to actively understand information provided by the speaker, provide the speaker with feedback, ask pertinent questions and display interest in the topic discussed so the speaker knows the message is being understood.
  • Emotional Intelligence: This session assists the participant's capacity to recognize their own, and other people's emotions, to discriminate between different feelings and label them appropriately, and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior.
